Amritsar, Mar. 17 (Punjab Post Bureau)- The All India Inter-University Taekwando (Men and Women) Championship was inaugurated here today in Multipurpose Gymnasium Hall of the Guru Nanak Dev University. As many as 350 sports personnel of 70 teams from different Universities are participating in this championship which would be concluded on March 21.
Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ajaib Singh Brar inaugurated the championship. Dr. H.S. Randhawa, Deputy Director Sports & Head and Secretary GNDUSC (M&W) welcomed the chief guest and others and gave the details about the championship. Dr. (Mrs.) Sukhbir Kaur Mahal, President GNDU Sports Committee (Women) and Principal, Khalsa College for Women presented vote of thanks
Prof. Brar said that students should play their game with spirit of true sportsmanship without bothering the results. He said that losers should work hard to excel next time. He said that Guru Nanak Dev University has created State of Art infrastructure for the development of sports and the buildings of sports hostel would be completed shortly. He said that three athletes of Guru Nanak Dev University have won Gold medals in SAF Games held recently at Guwahati.
Today, events to be played in four weight categories 57kg, 73kg, 53kg and 46 kg. First event started of 57 kg. First match was held between Vignan University, Andhra Pradesh and Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar.
