Seminar on Food Safety Organized at Khalsa College

PPN31062016010Amritsar, March 31 (Dharmender Singh Rataul) – The experts at a seminar organized by the PG Department of Food Science and Technology, Khalsa College, today stressed that the scientific packaging and storage of the food items, are must for healthy living. They also highlighted the new laws being framed for the food safety. Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) system manager Amandeep Kumar said during the talk on `An Approach to Food Safety’, that the industrial packaging of the food is taking new dimensions. “The documentation, implementation, and verification in food processing and food safety is taking a new form and laws regarding the food safety must be implemented well’’, said he. Principal Dr. Mehal Singh while addressing the students lauded the role of HACCP in food safety and said that food safety is not a new term but has been practiced since ancient times. “People should store their agricultural produce on the basis of principles of HACCP’’, he said. Prof. Manbir Singh, Head, Department of Food Science and Technology was of the view that food safety should be followed at every step in handling, preparation and storage of food to avoid severe health hazards. Prof. Sandeep Singh, Prof. Ritupriya, Prof. Davinderpal Singh, Prof. Seeratpreet Kaur, Prof. Prabhjot Kaur, Prof. Davinder Kaur, Prof. Shubhpreet Kaur, Prof. Harmeen Kaur were also present in the seminar.
