Amritsar, April 18 (Punjab Post Bureau)- The students of DAV Public School, Lawrence Road , Amritsar observed ‘World Heritage Day’ with great enthusiasm. It was on April 18, 1982, during a symposium organised by ICOMOS ( the International Council for Monuments and Sites), it was suggested that the day should be celebrated as International Day for Monuments and Sites. Later in 1983, the idea was approved by UNESCO and it is now traditionally called the World Heritage Day. The students of the school portrayed their culture and heritage through folk songs and stories. Speaking on this occasion , Mr. G.S Bhatti from Punjabi faculty, said that with its richness, Punjabi heritage and culture stands tall and is at par with others and needs to be preserved. Celebrating this year’s theme ‘ The Heritage of Sport’ , the students dedicated the day by playing the traditional games like Kgho – Kho, Kabbadi etc. nRegional Director , Punjab Zone – A, Dr. (Mrs.) Neelam Kamra and the Manager of the school , Dr.Rajesh Kumar , Principal DAV College Amritsar in their message to the students said that they must be proud of their heritage and join together to protect and preserve it. Dr. Neera Sharma, Principal of the school said “Heritage and culture is a part of one’s life. We cannot think ourselves to exist without our heritage.” She further added that she was happy to see her students showing interest in their culture and joining hands to keep the excitement and spirit of traditional and heritage sports alive.
