Sri Guru Harkrishan Sr. Sec. Public School,  Majitha Road Bypass

Amritsar, April 23 (Punjab Post Bureau) – In collaboration with the Intach club Amritsar chapter SGHPS Majitha Road Bypass hosted the Folksong & Folk story telling competition on April23, 2016. 12 Schools participated in the Competition.

The event began by invoking the blessings of the almighty. The judges and the distinguished members of the Intach club were accorded a floral welcome by Principal Mrs. Dapinder kaur. Principal Mrs. Dapinder Kaur welcomed the august gathering and told the students that how folk songs and stories that once were the lifeline of our country have been forgotten. She also appreciated the efforts being done by such clubs and organization in revering the old traditions and rich culture.

The convenor of the club  S. Sukhdev Singh (Head English Department, GNDU) also addressed the audience and highlighted the works being carried out by the Intach club in preserving the heritage of the State.

The participants of folk song competition attired according to the occasion showcased their innate potential and enthralled the audience with their mesmerizing performance. The participants of the story telling competition transported the audience to the lanes of yesteryears, where grandmothers spinned out tales of valour, values, fairies, religious sakis etc. The students of the school presented a cultural item in which they presented the different folk songs sung on different occasions in Punjab.

The young energetic turbaned boys of the school gave in a performance highlighting the importance of Turban in a  Sikh’s life. The judges of the event were Prof. Rupinder Kaur, Prof. Shaminder Kaur, Prof. Veenus Chadha from Saroop Raani Govt. College Asr.

The Trophies and certificates were given away to the winners by the members Incharge of the school-S. Rajmohinder Singh ji Majitha, Er. Jaspal Singh ji, Er. Navdeep Singh ji, Principal Mrs. Dapinder Kaur and Members of Intach Club. The event culminated with the vote of thanks proposed by S. Sukhdev Singh, Convenor of the event.
