Amritsar, Sept. 14 (Punjab Post Bureau) – An “Interaction Programme-cum-Workshop on Research Methodology for Ph.D. Scholars” was inaugurated here today at the UGC-Human Resource Development Centre of the Guru Nanak Dev University. As many as 37 budding research scholars from across the various educational institutes of Punjab are participating. Prof. S.K. Singla, Retd. Professor, Panjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana was the Chief Guest. Prof. Singla in his inaugural address exhorted the young scholars to make optimum use of the advancements in the Information Technology in their respective discipline in order to substantially improve the quality of research in the country. Highlighting the increasing role being played by ‘Information Explosion’, he cautioned them to be fully aware of the various challenges associated with it. Tracing the origin of research methodology as an exclusive discipline, he emphasized its role in carrying out quality research work. That’s why the University Grants Commission has been, of late, persistently making endeavours for conducting such Workshops for research scholars of the various disciplines. However, such Workshops/Programmes are not the only way to get acquainted with the research methodology. Such interactions with each other as well as with the renowned experts in this field do play an utmost role in imparting the appropriate research skills, he emphasized. A genuine researcher needs to be inquisitive, innovative, creative, dedicated, devoted and so on, he concluded. Prof. Amarjit Singh Sidhu, Director, UGC-Human Resource Development Centre formally introduced the Chief Guest to the audience. Shedding light on the significance of this Workshop, he counselled the participants to get themselves optimally enriched with the contemporary research methodologies. The aim of such Centres is not only to improve the expertise/skills, but also to bring together the participants cutting across the disciplines on a single platform in order to facilitate interaction amongst them, he continued. Such interactions amongst the participants pertaining to a diversity of disciplines definitely goes a long way in enriching each other’s knowledge. Earlier Prof. Singla was accorded a floral welcome by Prof. Amarjit Singh Sidhu and Dr. Mohan Kumar. Dr. Mohan Kumar proposed the vote of thanks.
