
Amritsar, November 5 (Punjab Post Bureau)- Global Institutes Amritsar along with Rotary Club Civil Lines organized a mega Blood Donation Camp,to mark “World Kindness Day” on November 13, designated by the United Nations.
On the theme “The gift of blood, is the gift of life”, the camp was inaugurated at the GIA campus by Chairman Dr. B. S. Chandi. During his address to the assembled staff, students and members of Rotary, Dr. Chandi, said “Kindness is a virtue that each one of us must inculcate in these testing times of violence and bloodshed.” He further added that shortage of blood is being felt in each corner of the country owning to disease, accidents and situations that require blood transfusions. “Blood cannot be artificially produced or manufactured; hence it has to come from healthy donors. Your kindness can mean a lifeline for someone and their families”, he added.
As many as 265 donors from the Institute including from Faculty& Students came forward to donate blood. Doctors from Government Blood Bank took strict precautions and ‘Donor Safety Measures’ during the camp handled by Government Blood Bank Staff. As much as 265 units of Blood were collected. It may be mentioned that with just one pint of blood, upto three lives can be saved. According to some reports, Blood donation also burns the extra calories and reduces cholesterol level. After donating blood, the count of blood cells decreases in our body, which stimulates the bone marrow to produce new red blood cells in order to replenish the loss. So, it stimulates the production of new blood cells and refreshes the system.
GIA’s Vice Chairman Dr. Akashdeep Singh supervised the Blood donation activity in the Institute and appreciated the enthusiasm of Wg. Com. Prof. D. S Bhambra, his team and the students for this noble cause and awarded certificates to all the donors. Indu Aurora president Rotary club Amritsar Civil Lines along with past president Baldev Singh, and Rotary members Kamal Uppal, Ashish Sharma with Dr. Ravi Mahajan and his team helped in organizing the camp.
