Amritsar, November 10 (Punjab Post Bureau)- Bhartiya Janata Party state executive member Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina termed the Supreme Court verdict on Satluj-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal as `shocking’ and `unacceptable’. He said Punjab has no water to spare for any of the neighbouring state and they will not not allow even a drop to go out of the state. He said he takes the judiciary in high esteem the ground realities are different and Punjab farmers’ interests would be ruined if the water was spared for any other state.
In a hard hitting statement, Chhina who appealed the state government to file a review petition before the Supreme Court on the matter meanwhile blamed the opposition Congress party for the SYL fiasco and how the party played with the interests of the state. “Whole problem of construction of SYL started during late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s regime and thus Congress is the genesis of Punjab’s troubles’’, said Chhina. Chhina also termed the resignation of Congress MP from Amritsar Captain Amarinder Singh as a mere drama. “After winning the elections in 2014, Captain Amarinder did not show the face to the people here. Now he is doing the drama of tendering resignation. It is opportunistic act by Captain who resort to such political gimmicks’’, said Chhina.
