ARVO Foundation USA awarded DCERF grant to GNDU research scholar

Amritsar, February 20 (Punjab Post Bureau) -Mr. Nikhil S. Sahajpal, a Ph.D. student of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Guru Nanak Dev University has been awarded the prestigious developing country eye researcher Travel Fellowship (DCERF) by the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) Foundation for Eye Research, USA to attend the annual ARVO 2017 meeting to be held at the Baltimore Convention Center, Baltimore, USA from May 7- May 11, 2017. This esteemed international travel award of around 4,000 US dollar has been awarded to Mr. Nikhil Sahajpal for his research work on “The Deranged Vitreous Biochemistry in Diabetic Retinopathy: Possible Diagnostic, Prognostic and Therapeutic Targets.” being supervised by Dr. Subheet Kumar Jain, Professor and Head, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, GNDU, Amritsar. This clinical research work is being conducted in collaboration with Dr. Vipan Vig, Dr. Preetam Singh and Dr. Rajbir Singh; world-renowned vitreo-retinal specialists at Dr Sohan Singh Eye Hospital, Amritsar, Punjab, India. This competitive international/global fellowship is awarded only to 10 scientists from developing countries and Mr. Nikhil is first one to get this prestigious fellowship from GNDU, Amritsar. The DCERF recipients will be mentored by established world renowned scientist working in the area eye research during and after the Annual Meeting. This DCERF award covers the entire travel costs to be incurred by Mr. Nikhil Sahajpal (ARVO meeting registration, ARVO annual membership, Airfare, hotel, and other miscellaneous expenses) to attend this meeting in May 2017. All the faculty members, research scholars of the department, and co-authors congratulated Mr. Sahajpal for his extraordinary effort for this outstanding research work.
