Amritsar, February 21 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Congress candidate from Amritsar Lok Sabha Gurjeet Singh Aujla termed Badal’s actions over Satluj Yamuna Link Canal (SYL) as ‘dirty politics’. Aujla said that SAD and Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) are two sides of the same coin, SAD is in alliance with INLD in Haryana and at the moment both the parties have lost foothold in respective state and now they are using SYL issue to gain some ground.
He said that Badals have extended their stays in US despite tense state of affairs in Punjab. Aujla termed INLD’s announcement to restart construction of SYL canal on February 23 on the state’s border with Punjab as Badal’s game plan to drag the innocent masses of both the states into bloody confrontation which he did in past also to reap political gains. Moreover radical organisations have also announced to gather at Kapuri to challenge the INLD workers, to stop them from any type of construction in Punjab. He said that Capt. Amarinder Singh had quietly got the Punjab Termination of Agreements Bill passed in a special Assembly session in July 2004, according to which Punjab scrapped water-sharing agreements with neighboring states and preserved the riparian rights of Punjab. Later on Badals kept on ignoring this issue when it was being heard in court. The Supreme Court has now ordered status quo on SYL canal and has fixed February 22 as next date of hearing of the SYL case. Aujla appealed to the people of Punjab and Haryana to beware of the dirty being played by Badals and Chautalas for their personal benefits. He also appealed to the union government to keep a strict watch over the situation on the border of the states and try to hinder any undesirable incidents. He warned Chief Minister Badal not to play with the sentiments of Punjabis and disturb the equilibrium of peace in the state.
