All set for Green Drive, Solar Energy already Operational – Chhina
Amritsar, June 26 (Punjab Post Bureau) – As part of a major `green drive’, more than 10,000 saplings will be planted in all the 19 educational institutions under Khalsa College Governing Council (KCGC). The drive will start during upcoming monsoon months and required arrangements for the mega plantations has already been made with Principals and Heads of institutions directed to carry out the work meticulously.
KCGC honourary secretary Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina said the aim is to enhance the green cover at all the campuses of the college and schools including historic Khalsa College which will witness the plantation of trees and saplings at large scale. He said the Monsoon will onset in July and the plantation will start in the first week to save environment and ensure greenery.
Chhina said `environment degradation’ is a major challenge and planting more trees is the only solution to save earth’s fragile ecosystem. “The role of educational institutions, students and teachers in spreading environment awareness and to plant trees is highly significant in this regard’’, said Chhina adding that even Gurus have asked the humans to protect the environment and keep it green and clean.
“It is the duty of every individual to save life of humans and animals which is facing danger from rising environment pollution”, said he adding that the plantation drive is an annual exercise initiated in the monsoon season and this time it will be arranged at larger level. The plants he said will be available at the nursery of Khalsa College and they have also made collaboration with Pingalwara Society for the supply of more plants.
Apart from the plantation, the vast Khalsa College campus has adopted the solar energy solution and producing around 700 kilowatt of energy to meet its primary requirement. “The campus is one of the first in the state that has adopted solar energy which is environment friendly”, said KCGC authorities.
KCGC institutions’ buildings are equipped with rain-harvesting and not a drop is wasted during the rains, said Chhina.
