Amritsar, October 21 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Kindling smiles among children, ‘Amritsar Sacred Heart Alumni (ASHA)’ piloted a project for Deepawali Celebrations, at Government Elementary School, Village Heir. Under ASHA’s “Care &Share” project a six member team of ASHA NGO gifted dry ration, pencil boxes and sweets to the 153 children from nurseryto 5th standard of the village school.
The government school was gifted toys and educational aids for its nursery pen. The toys included multi-colored educational blocks of alphabets and numbers, play-way methods of learning toys, wild animal, fruit toys as well as various toy mobile vehicles to support teaching such as cars, scooters, mobikes, trucks, ambulances, bicycles, rikshaws, armouredvehicles, police cars.
ASHA President Rashmi Talwar said-“Toys have been carefully chosen to prove useful for fun with learning. Learning stays longer when visual objects are used, for instance a Toy kitchen set, around which stories can be woven, as well as learning to identify kitchen utensils.” ASHA Secretary Mona Mehra stated – “Troublesome and restless children can be asked to match colors on a Rubik’s cube.” ASHA had gifted carom board set,Rubik’s cubes, smilie balls, even as children were thrilled to see the tricycle, musical swing and musical horse besides models of aircrafts. PoojaMehra ASHA’s Finance Head said the toys also include Mecano sets and hardware tool toys. “These are known to trigger creativity and love for mechanics among adolescent children”.
Principal of the school Ms Charanjit Kaur and former SarpanchBalwinder Singh of the village were present on the occasion along with teaching and non-teaching staff of the school. The six member ASHA team included Sangeeta Seth, Mini Kapoor and PoonamMalhotra. Children performed Gidda,Samii besides some of them recited animated poems on Deepawali besides other fun-action acts that thrilled children. Contributions for the project were made by ASHA members’ as well as donors from India and abroad. Last Deepawali ASHA had gifted shawls to aged women at All India Women Conference as Diwali Gifts.
