Sidhu Announces to Embark A Campaign For Perpetuating the Glorious Cultural Legacy of State

Announces A Grant of  One Crore to Punjab Arts Council for Achieving the Goal

Amritsar, Sept. 24 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Underscoring the need for perpetuating the rich cultural heritage of the state, the Local Government and Tourism Minister, Punjab Mr. Navjot Singh Sidhu announced to embark a program for disseminating the message of saving our glorious legacy in every village of the state.

            Addressing the gathering during a function to commemorate the 141^st birthday of legendary poet Dhani Ram Chatrik here at village Lopoke, the Minister said that this function was a part of the program chalked out by the state government to preserve the centuries old cultural legacy. He said that it was unfortunate that our younger generations were forgetting this great heritage of our state. However, Mr. Sidhu that now the state government and Punjab Arts Council has taken on the challenge to make our younger generations abreast about our culture and heritage.

            The Minister said that for the first time the Council has been asked to move out of Chandigarh office to spread the message of saving our culture in all the more than 12000 villages of the state. He said that this function was also part of the campaign started by the state government for making our younger generations aware about the cultural legacy. Mr. Sidhu also announced a grant of Rs 1 crore to the council for this noble cause.

            Speaking on the occasion Chairman of Punjab Arts Council Dr Surjit Patar paid floral tributes to the iconic poet Dhani Ram Chatrik. He said that they were very fortunate to be here to pay homage to the renowned poet at his native village. Dr Patar exhorted the school students to play an instrumental role in perpetuating the glorious legacy of the state.

In his address Deputy Commissioner Mr. Kamaljeet Singh Sangha underlined the need for organizing more such programs for attaining the real goal of preservation of culture. He expressed hope that the concerted efforts of the state government and the council would produce desired results.
