NRI facilitation centres of RBI must be set up at every district headquarter – Aujla

Amritsar, February 20 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Congress candidate from Amritsar Lok Sabha Gurjeet Singh Aujla today raised the issue of the inconvenience being faced by Non Resident Indians (NRIs) in exchange of defunct notes. Resident Indian citizens who were abroad from November 9 to December 30 can avail this facility up to March 31, 2017 and NRI citizens, who were abroad during this period, can exchange their defunct notes up to June 30, 2017.Aujla Gurjeet RBI has arranged for this exchange at its Delhi and Mumbai branches which is practically impossible to approach for those who came for a short visit to India. Aujla said that Modi government has amended its demonetisation decision for more than 60 times but still it has innumerable glitches one among those is exchange system for Resident and Non resident Indians. Aujla informed  that arriving Indians declare the defunct notes at International airports and then they have to visit RBI branches at Delhi and Mumbai which takes 2 to 3 days. He suggested that Modi government must open exchange centres at airports as well as at district headquarters. SBI and other nationalised banks must also be authorised to facilitate people in exchange process. He further added that RBI has branches at almost all the capitals of states and UTs, but government didn’t   setup exchange centres there. Aujla demanded that union government must take measures to resolve this issue as soon as possible so that arriving Indians may enjoy their stay in India.
