Dilbir Foundation Tree Plantation Splurge

Amritsar, July 9 (Punjab Post Bureau) – In a tree plantation splurge across the district, Dilbir Foundation (DF) has PPN0907201710collaborated with the NCC, Resident Welfare Associations (RWA) as well as institutions to plant and get commitments for thousands of native tree plantations.

Collaborating with the NCC Punjab Battalion , headed by Colonel Commandant Ashwini, yesterday 1000 indigenous species, including  Jamun, Sukhchain, Arjun, Shreen, Dhrek, Talli etc., have been planted with the help of 550 Cadets & NCC doing “Shramdaan” at the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya. Apart from these protected forests, plantations at industrial areas, colonies and educational institutions are also at full swing. The saplings have been provided by DFO & Horticulture department on the directions of the Deputy Commissioner Amritsar.

            1200 trees have been planted by the RWA’s of Palmgrove & Paradise Greens between  J une 28 to  July 10. This in addition to the 2600 trees planted in these colonies in 2016 under the EcoAmritsar Program. In a couple of years these colonies on airport road shall be flush with avenues of trees and an ecosystem that will be the envy of the city.

            Another effort at involving individual households, shopkeepers & students is the “Adopt A Tree” initiative in collaboration with the WWF-India (Punjab). Puneet Watts, looking after the project said, “This initiative is being supported by a WWF pan-India campaign for afforestation where the support of individuals to adopt one tree per year is encouraged. This is in addition to the greenification of graveyards that we have already begun.”

This Sunday, 150 saplings were planted at Ansal City on GT Road by the Amritsar Bicycling Club. Sporting the T-shirts of Decathlon, in full helmet and protection gear, 75 riders rode from Decathlon to Ansal City and planted trees. Said Gunbir Singh, President, Dilbir Foundation, “Our goal this year is the survival of at least 25000 saplings of native species this year. This shall be one of the humble contributions to the environment of the Holy City. ”
