Amritsar, August 29 (Punjab Post Bureau) – An online multi-disciplinary Summer School (Environment & Sustainable Habitat) has been successfully started by UGC-Human Resource Development Centre with an inaugural address by Chief Patron Prof. Jaspal Singh Sandhu Vice-Chancellor GNDU. Prof. Sandhu in his address highlighted his love for nature and shared life experiences with participants. GNDU, he said, is a zero-discharge campus where all wastewater is being treated and consumed within the premises. Recently the university has also introduced battery-operated carts for students and employees of the university. The keynote address was given by Prof Anish Kumar Dua, Dean of Student Welfare, who shared the objectives of the course and motivated the participants to learn from resource persons. He said it is their personal choice in fulfilling one’s desire to excel in life.
Prof. Sudha Jatinder Director UGC-HRDC apprised the significance of HRDC and requested the participants to attend the course diligently.She said that there are 66 HRDC centers and GNDU center is one of the best centers in India. Participants are faculty from varied subjects including Sciences, Arts, Commerce, and Engineering. GNDU faculty from Urban Planning, Electronics, Chemistry and Religious Studies are also part of the training programme.
The course coordinator Prof. MS Bhatti from the Department of Botanical & Environmental Sciences thanked Vice-Chancellor for motivation and support. The first academic was conducted by Prof. S K Mehta, Vice-Chancellor, University of Ladakh followed by Prof. P.K Pati from the Biotechnology department on the cultivation and uses of medicinal plants. The other confirmed speakers will be from IIT Kharagpur, IIT Mumbai, CSIR-National Physical Laboratory New Delhi, CSIT-IHBT Palampur, University of Hyderabad, PGIMER Chandigarh, TERI School of Advanced Studies New Delhi, ARIES Nainital, TIET Patiala, Panjab University Chandigarh, Central University of Punjab Bathinda, NIT Jalandhar & RGIPT Amethi.
