Amritsar, November 25 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Under the Global Initiative of Academic Network (GIAN) Program of Ministry of Human Resources Development, Govt of India, the Chemistry Department of Guru Nanak Dev University is organizing Two courses during Dec. 12-16, 2016 and Dec 12-21, 2016 in the conference hall of Guru Nanak Bhavan Building.
The course coordinators, Prof. Palwinder Singh and Dr. M. S. Bhatti told that one course on Carbon Capturing and Sequestration will focus on our current environmental problems of biomass burning and increasing load of carbon dioxide in the air. The resource person, Prof. Jeffery A. Reimer from University of California, Berkeley USA will deliver about 15 lectures focusing on the issues like post- and pre-combustion capture of CO2; the thermodynamics of gas separations, use of parasitic energy as a metric for successful carbon capture, CO2 trapping mechanisms, selection of sites for geological storage, sequestration projects, health and safety, failure mechanisms, and Geo-engineering for carbon capture. Carbon capture by absorption, including solvent design, use of metal organic frameworks, costs and optimization will also be discussed.
In the second course, Prof. Bernhard Bluemich from RWTH Aachen University, Germany, an expert in compact nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometers will deliver about thirty lectures on the wonderful technique of using nuclear magnetic resonance for Analysis of Chemical and Material Properties and its biomedical applications.
Prof. A. S. Brar, vice-chancellor told that Guru Nanak Dev University is committed to serve the society through excellent teaching and research programmes. He told that in view of the current environmental issues, the experts from UC Berkeley and Germany are invited to provide scientific way-out for tackling the problems and later on Guru Nanak Dev University will extend collaboration with those universities. The course coordinators told that details of the courses can be found at http://web.gndu.ac.in/gian.htm. and all those interested from academia, industry, and other related stakeholders can attend the courses.
