Amritsar October 12, ( Punjab Post Bureu)- Doctors of Amandeep Hospital along with about 10 recovered patients with knee and pelvic replacement surgeries today were joined by sports and medical students, doctors of medical college, morning walkers to showcase the critical significance of daily walk during the celebration of “World Arthritis day” at Company Bagh early this morning. As many as 340 persons in grey T-shirts, participated in the ‘Health Walk’ flagged off by Improvement Trust Chairman Sandeep Rishi, joined by Dr. Avtar Singh, Dr. Amandeep Kaur, Dr. Ravi Mahajan, Dr Parladh Duggal, Dr Navjot Singh, Dr Ravikant, Dr Rajeev Mehra, Dr Kanwar, Dr Shahbaz, Dr Sonali Soni, Dr Paramjit Singh of Amandeep Hospital and International Hockey Player Balwinder Shammi with his wife besides Hospital staff. While addressing morning walkers Dr Avtar Singh director of Amandeep Hospital gave a message to “walk your way to Healthy Bones”. He also shared some interesting facts that a new born has 300 bones which get reduced later, the thigh bone (Femur) is the longest and Ear Bone (Stirrup) is the smallest bone while a hand is made up of 27 bones. He advised that excess of salt, sugar and high calorie food was bad for bones, while sodas/soft drinks weaken bones and regular alcohol delays healing of bones. Regular exercise and controlled weight helps to maintain bones.
Sukhwinder Singh (75) an agriculturist and Daljit Singh (78) having got knee replacements done three-years back said they got a new lease of life with the advanced surgeries and now could pursue their earlier lifestyles without any hitch. Mr O.P. Kalia former Principal Shri Guru Teg Bahadur College for Women and Prem Goinka (62) a housewife said they could perform all daily chores and more after the surgery of their knees. Pamphlets on prevention of arthritis were distributed, on the occasion. This was followed by a free medical check-up camp supervised by Dr. Abhishek Bansal Orthopaedic, at Amandeep Multi-speciality OPD near Trillium Mall where Harcharan Singh (53) a truck driver and Davinder Singh (55) a security guard were among 60 persons given free check up. A Health awareness campaign in a local mall was held, wherein free consultation coupons were distributed amongst general public.
