SGPC distributes Rs.22 lakh scholarships to religious exam participants

Amritsar, June 18 (Punjab Post Bureau)The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee today distributed scholarships worth about Rs 22 lakh to 990 students who appeared in Dharmik Prikhya (religious examination) during the session of 2019-20.

                       SGPC president Bibi Jagir Kaur honoured the students with scholarship cheques and mementoes during the scholarship distribution ceremony held at Gurdwara Sri Manji Sahib Diwan Hall in Sri Amritsar on Thursday.

                       Speaking on the occasion Bibi Jagir Kaur said that children and youth are the future of the community and it is very important for them to be aware of their faith.

                        “If the youths are aware of the Sikh values and culture, then the community will undoubtedly remain in Charhdi Kala (high spirit). Under this motive, the SGPC conducts the religious examination for a long time, in which thousands of students from different schools and colleges participate every year. This time too around 50,000 students had appeared in the religious examination, out of which, 990 students secured the scholarships, while 17 students performed excellent and secured positions in the merit list”, said Bibi Jagir Kaur.

                   SGPC president said, “It is imperative for the future generations to be firm in Sikh living and the SGPC is connecting the students of schools and colleges with the Sikh principles and history through these religious examinations.”

               Bibi Jagir Kaur congratulated the students who secured merit and scholarships in the religious examination and encouraged them to remain interested in learning about the Sikh faith in the future as well.

               On this occasion the teachers and principals of the schools who performed excellently in the religious examination were also honoured by the SGPC.

                  During the scholarship distribution ceremony, SGPC senior vice-president Surjit Singh Bhitewad, executive committee members Baldev Singh Chunghan, Satwinder Singh Tohra, Bhupinder Singh Bhalwan, Ajmer Singh Khera, members Harjap Singh Sultanwind, Bawa Singh Gumanpura, Bibi Kiranjot Kaur, Mangwinder Singh Khaparkheri, assistant secretary Kulwinder Singh Ramdas, Simarjeet Singh Kang, manager Sri Darbar Sahib Gurinder Singh Mathrewal, OSDs to SGPC president Dr. Amrik Singh Latifpur and Dr Sukhbir Singh, Prof Sukhdev Singh in-charge of religious examination, Kartar Singh, head preacher Bhai Jagdev Singh, preacher Bibi Harpreet Kaur, Bhai Waryam Singh, Principal Sarwan Singh Tugalwal and others were present.
