Amritsar, July 29 (Punjab Post Bureau) – The colourful dances and festivity marked the celebrations of ‘Tiyaan’ at Khalsa College for Women (KCW) today as the faculty members clad in traditional dresses resorted to musical presentations. They recited ‘Bolian’ (verses from folk music) and performed `Gidda’ to welcome the rainy season of ‘Savan’, associated with the good times and festivity.
While the authorities at the College termed the festival as ‘celebration of women power’, the teachers said that they wanted to send the message that despite the Covid-19 related difficult times, life need to be enjoyed with fun and frolic. “It is a festival for girls. They welcome the new rainy season by dancing to the traditional music”, said KCW Principal Dr. Surinder Kaur.

Students were not involved this year due to the Covid-19 restrictions and only teachers took part in the festivity.
“This is the perhaps only festival which is meant entirely for women”, said another teacher adding that this is also the festival of hope that problems in life and society would be overcome with courage and grit.
