SGPC President writes to PM and external affairs minister for safety of Afghan Sikhs

SGPC committed to resettlement of Sikhs coming from Afghanistan to India

Amritsar, August 14 (Pumjab Post Bureau) – The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Bibi Jagir Kaur urged to the Prime Minister (PM) of India Shri Narendra Modi, Home Minister (HM) of India Shri Amit Shah and External Affairs Minister (EAM) of India Dr S. Jaishankar to ensure the safety of Sikhs living in Afghanistan and make unconditional arrangements to bring those Sikhs who want to come to India from Afghanistan.

              At the same time SGPC President Bibi Jagir Kaur announced that the settlement of the Sikhs who would come to India from Afghanistan will be arranged by the SGPC.

               In a letter to the PM, HM and EAM, the SGPC President Bibi Jagir Kaur said that the Sikhs are feeling insecure due to the prevailing situation in Afghanistan.

                SGPC President urged the Government of India to take immediate steps for the security and safety of the Sikhs living in Afghanistan and to make suitable arrangements for the Sikhs wishing to come to India.

                 Bibi Jagir Kaur said that the Union ministers of India that as per the historical facts available there were large numbers of Sikhs living in Afghanistan, but unfortunately today only about 20 families are living there. She said that it is even more unfortunate that the few remaining families are living in the shadow of insecurity.

               She said that the Government of India should take initiative to bring Sikhs to India and resettle them. SGPC President said that the SGPC is committed to resettlement of all Sikh families which will come to India from Afghanistan. She said that this is a very serious matter so the government should consider it sympathetically and make an announcement in this regard on priority basis.
