Amritsar border zone police controlled crime & maintained peace- I.G Angra

 IG Angra1Amritsar, Dec. 30 (Punjab Post Bureau)- The Border Zone Amritsar, Punjab Police witnessed a successful the culminating year 2015, where pro-active approach of the force not only controlled crime but also maintained peace and harmony in border areas. Punjab Police with public cooperation and support averted many untoward besides controlling crime rate. The Border Zone Police has successfully foiled the attempt of Pakistani militants on 27-07-2015 and gunned down them at Dina Nagar police station’s premises. In this operation, 3 PHG Jawans and Sh. Baljit Singh SP got Martyrdom and Police successfully neutralized three Pak terrorists.

            Expressing great satisfaction over the performance of Punjab Police, the IGP Border Zone Amritsar Mr. Lok Nath Angra highlighted that the 316 kilometre long India-Pakistan border was also actively guarded along with Para Military Force to thwart any cross border criminal activities. He said that Border Zone has been successfully controlled crime rate and ensure peace and amity in its jurisdiction and the performance of the force is quite good as the force has responded well to the challenges posed by anti-social elements. He said that it was also matter of satisfaction that the force has been responded faster to tackle the criminals and avert the unpleasant incidents.  Giving details of serious crimes, Mr. Angra said that in 2015 as many as 102 serious criminal cases were registered as compared to 116 in the year 2014, which were 14 cases less than the previous year. On the other hand, 153 cases of attempt to murder have been registered this year as compare to 159 last year.

            Similarly, in Hurt cases, crime  rate also witnessed a decline, as last year as many as 672 cases were registered while in 2015 this number came down to 552. The crime under this head saw a sharp decline of 120 cases as compared to last year. He said that in cases of crime against property (burglary) 313 cases were registered by the police whereas in 2014, this number was 321. The Snatching and Robbery cases also witnessed a sharp decline following round the clock vigilance of the border police. As compared to 152 such cases in 2014, this year the number of such cases fell down to 134. Similarly, 428 cases of Fraud were registered in the year 2015 while last year this number was close to 453.

            The IGP also maintained that the police recovered Rs 30,62,610 in  cases of burglaries while Rs 52,57,185 in theft cases and Rs 100, 12, 214 from criminals involved in loot and robbery cases. It is pertinent to mention here that this year, a total of 4463 cases were registered under IGP Border Zone Amritsar. Last year, as many as 4558 cases were registered with the IGP, which showed a decline of 2.08 percent. He informed that Border Zone also busted 11 gangs of criminals with an arrest of 59 gang members. He said that notorious Jaggu Gang of Amritsar, Sonu Kangla gang of Amritsar and Harjinder alias Vicky Gonder Gang were main gangs nabbed by border zone besides arresting 335 Proclaimed Offenders.

            In the area of traffic management and controlling traffic violations, the border zone police also proceeded towards right direction. The numbers of causalities were 445 in this year as compare to 521 in 2014. As many as 697 injured persons in different road mishaps had been brought to nearby hospitals by Punjab Police Jawans vis-à-vis saving 76 lives by making adequate arrangements on sensitive points. The police had also tightened the noose on 67952 traffic violators with collection of fine to the tune of Rs. 2.19 crore under Motor Vehicle Act. Mr. Angra said that besides this the Border Zone Police identified 73 points called as Black Spots witnessing road mishaps repeatedly. He said that in the year 2015 an Exclusive Traffic Management Plan had also been introduced for the facilitation of lakhs of daily commuters.

            Under the unique initiative of Punjab Government of Suwidha Centers/SAANJH Kendras, the Border Zone police have been providing 41 services. In 2015, these services have been provided through these centers to 2.6 lakh persons. The sustained and comprehensive campaign launched against drugs in border area also brought good results to fore. As many as 1305 cases in this regard have been registered with arrest of 1435 persons under various sections of Law. The Border Zone Police have recovered 25.580 kilogram of Opium, 668.500 kilogram of Poppy Husk, 119.302 kg of Heroine, 2.035 kg of Charus, 0.240 kg of Smack, 0.260 kilogram Cocaine, Brown sugar 2.270 kilogram, Intoxicated Powder 154.363 kg Capsules 80353, Injections 1946 and Intoxicated viles 209 form their possessions. The Border Zone Police also registered 1435 cases under Excise Act besides arresting 1435 persons with seizure of illicit liquor 41016.465 litre, Licit liquor 16848.945 litre, Lahn 1750.97 Quintals  and Working Stills 64 from their possessions. The Police have sent 1949 persons to drug de-addiction and rehabilitation centers.

            Border Zone police also did commendable job by resolving 1720 complaints of matrimonial disputes with effective counseling and intervention of senior citizens. As many as total 2472 complaints in this regard have been received out of which 72 cases were registered. In the culminating year 2015 Punjab Police in Border Zone received a total 55723 complaints out of which 45932 have been sorted out.

             The Border Zone has also witnessed various significant projects under which Chief Minister Punjab Mr. Parkash Singh Badal laid the foundation stone of new police station building of Chohla Sahib on 10 December 2015 besides sanctioning Rs. 2 crore for new building of City Police Station in Tarn Taran, Rs. 12 lakh for Barracks in Tarn Taran Police Lines and Rs. 5 lakh for boundary wall of Police Station Mehta in Amritsar District.
