Short Term Course on E-Learning Technologies concluded at GNDU

Amritsar, August 23 (Punjab Post Bureau) – A 7-Day “Short Term Course on E-Learning Technologies for Effective Teaching Research & Extension” concluded on August 23, 2016 at the UGC-Human Resource Development Centre of Guru Nanak Dev University. As many as 44 teachers and budding Research Scholars pertaining to a multiplicity of disciplines from across the length and breadth of the country participated in it.

Prof. Jaspal Singh Sandhu, Secretary, University Grants Commission, New Delhi graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Prof. Sandhu in his valedictory address apprised the participants about the key role being played by the University Grants Commission as an apex academic body in the field of higher education in the country. Tracing the brief history of this body, he shed light on the pivotal role played by it in promoting higher education, research activities in a variety of disciplines.

Stressing on improving the quality of the teachers, he briefed about the onerous responsibility of the Human Resource Development Centres in imparting the latest pedagogical skills, in addition to enhancing their expertise. He expressed his deep concern over the non-functioning of a number of these Centres in the country, which, in his view needs to be absolutely streamlined in order to make them accountable to the noble duty assigned to them. Sharing the facts and figures about the multiplicity of the schemes launched by the UGC in the country, he exhorted the teaching community at large to make an optimum use of these schemes not only for their professional advancement, but also for doing justice to their classrooms. Taking into account the fact that the organization of such courses for the teachers by these Centres entails a heavy amount of public expenditure, the teaching fraternity at large needs to draw maximum benefit out of them, he concluded.

Prof. Amarjit Singh Sidhu, Director, Human Resource Development Centre formally introduced the Chief Guest to the audience. Felicitating the participants on the successful completion of the course, he counselled them to incorporate the e-learning technologies learnt in this course in their teaching and research. Only then the aim of such courses is fully fulfilled, he emphasized. Lauding the dynamic transformation, transparency, healthy atmosphere brought about by Prof. Jaspal Singh Sandhu as Secretary in the working of the University Grants Commission, he said that much still leaves to be desired.

Prof. Gurvinder Singh, Dean, Faculty of Engg. & Technology and Coordinator of the Course summarized the overall proceedings of the Course. The participants of the Course profusely thanked the entire team of the Centre for their brilliant endeavour and also made a few valuable suggestions. Earlier, the Chief Guest was extended a floral welcome by Prof. Amarjit Singh Sidhu, Prof. Gurvinder Singh, Dr. R.S. Virk and Dr. Mohan Kumar. Dr. Mohan Kumar, Deputy Director, HRDC proposed the vote of thanks.
