
Amritsar, October 8 (Punjab Post Bureau) – PG Department of History organized an International Seminar on “Debating Gandhi” under the aegis of Gandhian Studies Centre in DAV College, Amritsar on October 8, 2016. Dr Mehboob Desai, Head Department of History and Culture, Gujrat Vidyapith Ahmadabad, Gujarat was the Chief Guest and Dr H.S Dilgeer, Director, Guru Nanak Institute, Birmingham, England was the Guest of Honour during this Seminar.
After the inauguration ceremony, Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Principal DAV College and Chairman, Gandhian Studies Centre gave the welcoming address to the guests and said that it is pertinent to mention that it is fifth time when the department is organizing this International seminar. He also added Ghandhi ji was the most intellectual personality of the 20th Century and such debates by research scholars will help solve many controversies surrounding Mahatma Gandhi by their in depth study. A video was also shown by department regarding India Pakistan Partition and Composite Culture prevailing in Amritsar.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Vishwa Bandhu, Head and Director, Gandhian Studies Centre and PG department of History said that Gandhi has become more relevant today than when he was alive. He also added that the present seminar tends to encourage the scholars to deliberate into his social, Political, economic and religious thoughts in order to enlighten the readers about his logical conclusions.
The papers were presented by approximately 23 people from all-over the India in two technical sessions on the themes like Gandhi and Wardha Scheme of Education, Gandhi on Ahinsa, Gandhi and his thoughts of Satyagraha, Gandhi and his Religion, Gandhi and Panchayati Raj, Gandhi on Modernization, Gandhi and Nehru: Ideologies Differences, Partion Crisis and Role of Gandhi. During this Seminar, certificates were also given to students of Cutting and Tailoring Centre running under Ghandian Study Centre on completition of their 6 months course. Principal and Teachers, contributing in schools running under Literacy Drive like New Sky Public School and Sweetheart Public School were also honoured for their contribution in spreading awareness to students in rural areas.
Dr A.D Mishra, Prof UP Rajshri Tondon, Open University, Allahabad was the key note speaker during the seminar. Dr Manish Sharma, Director, Ghandian Peace Study Centre, Chandigarh, Dr Raj Kumar and Dr Harbinder Kaur were the Chairpersons during the event. Dr Shilpi Seth, Dr Babusha, Prof. Manjeet, Prof. Manish Singh, Prof Aruna, Prof Aman, Prof Pawanpreet, Prof Navneet and Prof Himani were also present during the seminar.
