Amritsar, December 16 (Punjab Post Bureau)– An interactive meet between the Officials of US embassy and Faculty, research scholars and students was arranged by Punjab School of Economics of Guru Nanak Dev University today on 16.12 2016.
The Embassy officials included Ms. Dawn Shackleford, Deputy Assistant, US Trade Representative for WTO and Multilateral Affairs, in the Office of the US trade Representative (USTR). Ms. Shackleford is the lead US negotiator for the trade facilitation negotiations under the WTO Doha Round and the Trans-Atlantic Trade and Investment Partnership. She is also the US Representative to the OECD Trade Committee and a lead advisor on trade issues concerning the UN and other international organizations. The other official was Mr. Chad Norberg, Trade and Technology Unit Chief, in the office of Economic, Environment, Science and Technology Affairs, Embassy of USA, New Delhi.
Since, United States and India share a very important commonality of being the world’s two largest democracies, the interactive session with the delegates, especially from the US Embassy was considered a timely and an important meeting. Head, Punjab School of Economics, Prof (Mrs) Paramjit Nanda highlighted the major achievements of the school to the delegates. Prof. Nanda also talked about the relationship of India’s trade with the world’s economies.
Dr. Swati Mehta, Assistant Professor welcomed the guests and conducted the interactive meet between Embassy officials and all others present in the meet. Mr. Chad Norberg shared his experience and thoughts with the students and faculty. He highlighted the diversity involved in multicultural country like India.
Ms. Shackleford talked on various issues concerning trade, WTO issues and concerns regarding India. She answered the questions from the students and presented her views on issues like migration, e-commerce, service trade etc. Prof. Parminder Singh, Dr. Neena Malhotra, Prof. Paramjit Dhindsa, Prof. A.S.Sethi, and Dr Baljit Kaur actively participated in the discussion. In the end, Dr. Swati Mehta presented a vote of thanks to the audience.
