National Seminar on “Enriching Teaching, Learning and Evaluation Systems organized

Amritsar, March 24 ( Punjab Post Bureau) –  A UGC Sponsored National Seminar on “Enriching Teaching, Learning and Evaluation Systems in the Age of Digitalization” was organized by Department of Education of the  Guru Nanak Dev University here today in the  Shri Guru Granth Sahib Bhawan Auditorium of the University. As many as 250 delegates from the various part of the country participated and about 50 research paper were presented on various sub themes of the seminar covering various issues, challenges and innovations in teaching, learning and evaluation at School, College and University levels.  Prof. N. S. Tung, Dean, Academic Affairs of the university presided over the inaugural session. Prof. Dr. Mohammad Miyan, former Vice-Chancellor, Maulana Azad National Urdu University, Hyderabad delivered the inaugural address while Prof. Dr. K. Ramachandran, Advisor, India-Africa Institute of Educational Planning and Administration to NUEPA delivered keynote address. PPN2403201714Prof. Amit Kauts, Head of Department and seminar director welcomed the chief guest and others. Dr. Deepa Sikand Seminar Convener presented vote of thanks on this occasion. Prof. K. Ramachandran, in his key note address  said that  the digitalization should be seen as a facilitator of teaching learning processes. An informational presentation was also given by them on Digital Technologies for improving Student Learning opportunities and outcomes. He also deliberated on Technology of education as a science of learning and is most important of all 03 types of Educational Technologies. Prof. Ramachandran  shared his life time experiences of teaching with the presenters and encourage them to be a good teacher. Prof. Mohammad Miyan, While giving inaugurated address deliberated that Technology has changed the whole scenario of Teaching and Learning processes. But at the same time, it has not outshined the need of teacher in the class. He also conversated with the presenters about CBCS and strongly emphasised the need of implementing it in its real spirit. He also emphasized on the use of technology in teaching learning process in the sense that it helps the process to be dynamic and interactive.

While delivering the presidential remarks , Prof.  Tung, said that the technology should not be misused. It should supplement the Teaching Learning process and not replace it. He also appreciated the Department for undertaking such initiatives and encouraging the teaching learning processes to be more technologically sound in the education sector. He said that It is a digital world and hence one has to address the needs of digitalization of school system for effective teaching, learning and evaluation systems.

Prof. Amit Kauts, while welcoming said that in this technological era, technology has influenced the education sector in multi fold ways. Hence there is a need to enrich teaching, learning and evaluation processes with technology to enable it to fulfill its objectives with ease. He further opined that technology has changed the way the delivery of content matter happened to be in the classes few years back. Now the new technologies like Udacity, Google Docs, Sheets, Forms, You tube etc. have entered into the field of education, so we need to imbibe that in the day to day teaching learning processes.

During the plenary session, various eminent speakers from various varsities of India like Prof. Anita Rastogi, Head, Department of Educational Studies, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, Dr. Shakuntala Nagpal, Retired Head, Department of Teacher Education and Extension, NCERT, New Delhi, Dr. Aruna Anand, Former OH of Department of Education, GNDU, Prof. R.S. Yadav, Dean, Faculty of Education, Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra, Prof. Kirandeep Kaur, Head, Department of Education, C.S., Punjabi University, Patiala, Prof. Sangeeta, Head, Department of Education, Kurukshetra University etc. grace the occasion with their valuable thoughts.

Dr. Deepa Sikand, Associate Professor thanked all the participants for showing so much interest in the seminar discussions and makes it a great success. She further assured that the department will continue doing its best efforts to serve the needs of education sector and making a digitalized knowledge society.
