Amritsar, July 30 (Punjab Post Bureau) – The Focal Point associations of Amritsar joined hands with the WWF-India
Punjab & Dilbir Foundation (DF) to pledge a 5000 tree cover in the Focal Point. These areas infamous for the wasteland stretches will soon be a green belt. Taking Heed from the ongoing “Adopt A Tree” program which is being widely supported by the print and FM medias,
Mechanical digger was provided by DF under the EcoAmritsar program and over 600 pits were dug over the week, while saplings have already been handed over to the associations, and aggressive plantation is ongoing at the time of going to press. The greenification program has been led by Sundeep Khosla, President, Focal Point Welfare Association. He said that the cluster comprises of 450 units spread over an area of 350 acres. He and his team assured the Puneet Watts, WWF-India, Amritsar representative that the responsibility of every ten trees will be allocated to one unit.
Keeping the focus on the Industrial Area, on Sunday morning Rotary Club Amritsar West also joined hands, and started plantation for 300 trees. The inaugural plantation was attended by industrialists, spouses and their children. Rajesh Gulati, DFO, Amritsar expressed his pleasure at the inaugural event, and promised that while the industry is stepping forward for forestation within the focal point, the government shall also tidy up and create a park along the UBDC canal right from the Wallah rail bridge upto Taran wala Pul, thereby assuring a green curtain for the area.
Gunbir Singh WWF-India (Punjab) chairperson while inaugurating the program said, “The industry is often accused to be the pollutant, whereas the Focal Point industry welfare associations have shown that they are willing to shoulder the responsibility for a Sustainable environment. One compliments them for taking the initiative which can further be expanded for an expansive Role of corporate social responsibility for the city.”
