Amritsar, May 18 (Punjab Post Bureau) – The mayor was hugely appreciative of the Manch activities going on since 1993 and apprised the distinguished audience consisting university doctors, professors, engineers, surgeons and the intelligentsia from other section of society, of the ongoing Municipal projects and major development plans in the pipeline. He also detailed the economic measures like reducing the fuel bill of municipal vehicles or a more profitable contract with the garbage lifting company the Municipal Corporation (MC) had taken after his becoming mayor. Mr. Rintu was confident of the new policies of the MC under which four underpasses and five fly-overs will shortly be constructed in the city in order to streamline vehicular traffic besides providing a Mechanical Parking at Kairon Market and a new surface parking at Fish Market (Machhi Mandi) in order to reduce congestion. When queried about the problem of encroachments on road space, he announced that an exhaustive survey had revealed the total number of rehris ( vending vehicles ) in the city at about 12000 for which 31 vending zones or rehri stands had been ear marked and that three such stands will come up very shortly. That will, he said, pave the way for faster and snarl free movement in the walled city.
The Manch President Prof. Mohan Singh earlier welcomed the chief guest while Patron Dr Charanjit Singh Gumtala thanked the rich audience and the General Secretary Er. Manjit Singh Saini conducted the 2-hour meeting.
