Big leap towards flood control measures in Kapurthala

7 stone studs costing Rs 1.36 crore to save from floods by river beas laid under MNREGA

 Kapurthala, June 5 (Punjab Post Bureau) – District administration of Kapurthala has taken a big step to save the mand area of bholath and sultanpur lodhi sub divisions from floods in river beas as 7 stone studs have been laid with Rs. 1.36 crore under MNREGA.

            This would not only save 13,000 acres of fertile land in the Mand area of ​​these two tehsils from direct floods but would also help in protecting the lives and property of the people living in the Mand area by setting up camps and dhanis.

            Deputy Commissioner Mrs. Deepti Uppal, who took special initiative to install this stud under MGNREGA, not only provided employment to the workers during the covid but also completed the work expeditiously with low cost.

            She today also inspected the work of studs at Mand Kulla in Bholath tehsil and Dera Hari Singh in Sultanpur tehsil on the banks of Beas river with the officials of Drainage department today.

            She said that the district administration had earlier identified the weak points on banks of river Beas in Bholath and Sultanpur Lodhi constituencies which had witnessed large scale floods one and half years ago.

            These 7 studs have been installed at important places so that the flow of the river could be channelised.

            XEN of Irrigation Department Gurtej Singh said that 4 studs have been installed at Karamuwala Pattan of Sultanpur Lodhi at a cost of Rs. 78.99 lakh. This would save 6000 acres of cultivated land of villages like Boole, Karamuwala, Kabirpur and Hazara from floods and erosion.

            Apart from this 2 studs have also been installed at Ahli Kalan at a cost of Rs. 39.65 lakh, which would protect about 5000 acres of land at Ahli, Jamewal, Gudde and Fatehwal villages. Besides that a stud has been installed at Baghuana pattan of Bholath at a cost of Rs. 18.31 lakh which would save 2000 acres of land in Baghuwal, Mand Desal, Kamewal and Amritpur villages. On this occasion Gurcharan Singh SDO Were also present.
