Election of SGPC President and other office-bearers on November 29

SGPC to provide free education to 400 Sikh girls at Tarn Taran and Kartarpur- Bibi Jagir Kaur

Chandigarh, November 6 (Punjab Post Bureau)The annual election of the president, senior vice-president, junior vice-president, general secretary, and members of the executive committee (EC) of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) will be held on November 29.

                  The SGPC’s General House Session in this regard will be held at 1 pm at Teja Singh Samundri Hall, Sri Amritsar at the headquarters of SGPC.

                    The decision was taken at a meeting of SGPC’s EC meeting presided over by SGPC President Bibi Jagir Kaur at Gurdwara Sri Guru Kalgidhar Niwas in Sector 27, Chandigarh.

                  Giving information after the meeting, Bibi Jagir Kaur said that according to the Sikh Gurdwaras Act, the President of SGPC and other office bearers are elected in the month of November every year, and it is necessary to announce the date of election 21 days in advance.

              “The election will be held on November 29 during the General House Session by the members of the SGPC”, said Bibi Jagir Kaur.

              Disclosing the other important decisions taken in the EC meeting, Bibi Jagir Kaur said that an institution dedicated to the 400th birth anniversary of Guru Teg Bahadar Sahib would be set up at Tarn Taran to provide free education to 200 Sikh girls.

             “The needy and bright Sikh girls from Majha area would be admitted in this institution at Tarn Taran and similarly 200 Sikh girls would be provided free education at Mata Gujri Ji College in Kartarpur in Doaba area. Earlier, the SGPC is providing free education to 200 Sikh girls at Mata Sahib Kaur Girls College at Takht Sri Damdama Sahib in the Malwa area, most of who belonged to Jammu and Kashmir. The SGPC would also provide hostel and food to the girls who would be provided free education”, said Bibi Jagir Kaur.

              SGPC President said that a printing press would be set up soon in Canada for printing the holy saroops (scriptures) of Sri Guru Granth Sahib by SGPC.

                   “A delegation of SGPC was sent to Canada had submitted its report, according to which the process of setting up a press would be started soon. SGPC delegation held meetings and discussions with more than 70 Gurdwara Management Committees in Canada. After analysing the opinions of each of the committees, a place would be finalised for setting up the printing press in Canada. The land and other necessary facilities have been offered to the press from four places in Canada, and the final decision will be taken after consultation with Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib. After Canada, efforts would be made to print Sri Guru Granth Sahib in Europe, Australia, and USA”, said Bibi Jagir Kaur.

                  Bibi Jagir Kaur also said that the SGPC will give Rs 1 lakh each to families of three women farmers who were recently killed after being crushed by a tipper at Tikri Border and Rs 50,000 each to those who received injuries in this accident.

                She said that the EC has also approved to display portrait of former general secretary of  SGPC Jathedar Kuldeep Singh Wadala at the Central Sikh Museum.

                 Meanwhile, Bibi Jagir Kaur said that a grand function would be held on November 15, 2021, at Sri Amritsar to mark the 100 year establishment day of the SGPC.

                 She said that the 100-year journey of the Sikh organization (SGPC) has been a glorious one and the organization has been pursuing Sikh issues with utmost excellence as well as promoting Gurdwara management with Panthic sentiments.

                   During today’s EC meeting SGPC President Bibi Jagir Kaur thanked the committee members and officials for their cooperation during the last one-year tenure.

            Meanwhile, SGPC chief secretary Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami and all the executive members lauded the good work done by Bibi Jagir Kaur in the last year and commemorated the services rendered during the farmers’ movement as well as the COVID-19 pandemic.

                 Others present in the meeting included SGPC senior vice-president Surjit Singh Bhitewad, junior vice-president Baba Buta Singh, general secretary Advocate Bhagwant Singh Sialka, chief secretary Harjinder Singh Dhami, EC members including Satwinder Singh Tohra, Baldev Singh Chungan, Navtej Singh Kauni, Ajmer Singh Khera, Bhupinder Singh Bhalwan, Baba Charanjit Singh Jassowal, Bibi Malkit Kaur Kamalpur, Harbhajan Singh Masanan, Mithu Singh Kahnke, Amrik Singh Shahpur, secretary Mahinder Singh Ahli, additional secretaries Sukhdev Singh Bhurakohna, Partap Singh, Sukhminder Singh, assistant secretaries Kulwinder Singh Ramdas, Balwinder Singh Kahlwan, Tejinder Singh Padda, Sulakhan Singh Bhangali, Lakhbir Singh, OSD to SGPC President Dr Sukhbir Singh and others were present.
