Amritsar, Dec. 11 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Against the backdrop of incidents of violence and sexual assaults on girls, CBSE has made it mandatory for every school to train the students especially girl students in Martial Arts. Taking up the initiative, DAV Public School, Lawrence Road is the first school to introduce ‘Karate’ as a means of self defence for the girl students in the school.
The girl students of Std IX and X of the school are taking up the training programme and are learning the tactics of self – defence. The training classes have been added into their curriculum aiming to make the girls self – dependant and confident to face any untoward situation. Regional Director Amritsar Zone Dr. (Mrs.) Neelam Kamra Principal BBK DAV College for Women, Lawrence Road and the Manager of the school Dr. K.N Kaul OSD, DAV University, Jalandhar appreciated the school for taking up the initiative. They added that keeping in mind the present time, it is a welcome step taken by the school. The girl students should come forward and get the training and stand for themselves rather than become vulnerable.
Dr. Neera Sharma Principal of the school was all praise for CBSE. She added that women need to be given respect as they are excelling in every field. They are making themselves visible thus it has also become important for them to learn to defend themselves in a male – dominating world.
