Amritsar, October 21 (Punjab Post Bureau)- The students from the agriculture department of Khalsa College, Amritsar will be visiting the farmers in the village the `Agents of Change’ to get first hand information relating the challenges before the agriculture sector. The program is being organized by the College in collaboration with Centre for International Projects Trust (CIPT).
The programme, said Principal Dr. Mehal Singh, has been specifically designed for agriculture students as an extension activity which can help them build a practical understanding of agricultural issues in the region. CIPT which is India affiliate of Columbia Water Centre in New York has been working for sustainable agriculture through research and development, said he.
Director, Clean Energy & Environment, USAID India Micheal Satin who arrived on College campus for flagging off the initiative said the aim is to provide global perspective on agriculture and innovation in the field to address agriculture challenges. “Our commitment and proactive participation in changing our world is the human innovation that is required for solving the issues. Agents of Change programme will provide a platform for students to become leaders of change’’, said he.
Apurva Chaturvedi, Clean Energy Specialist from USAID was also present at the programme. She said the organisation has a rich experience of working with more than 15,000 farmers in the state. “The vision for Agents of Change programme is to develop young students into leaders for a sustainable development of agriculture in Punjab’’, she said. Head of Department Dr. Randeep Kaur Bal said programme will have 750 students participating in the program and they have decided to formally incorporate the programme as part of its curriculum in Department of Agriculture. She said was aimed to understand agricultural and socio-economic issue.
