Amritsar, February 22 (Punjab Post Bureau) – The Post Graduate department of History organized a talk on “Sikhism Diaspora”. On this Occasion, Dr Himadri Banerjee, Head Department, Jadavpur University, Kolkatta was the chief guest and Dr Raj Kumar, Faculty Department of History, Maharaja Sayaraji Rav University, Baroda, Dr Bir Good Gill Head Department of History, GNDU, Amritsar and Atma Ram, Researcher in Sikh History were Guest of Honor during the event. Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Principal along with Vice Principal and Head Department of History Dr Vishwa Bandhu welcomed the guests.
Principal Dr. Rajesh Kumar congratulated Head department of history for organizing such talks as such events are quite helpful in making students aware about various topics and such events also results in overall development of students.
While speaking on the occasion, Dr. Himadri Banerjee talked about the role played by Sikhs in the Indian freedom of struggle. She also added that large numbers of Sikhs are migrating from thier homeland which is negatively impacting Sikh Culture and Sikhs in the diaspora, especially the Sikh communities of Canada, Europe and other countries, have played a considerable role in the political, economic and social life of Punjab.
Interacting with students, Dr. Vishwa Bandhu talked about sacrifies of Sikhs in Indian History and their contribution in Freedom struggle. Prof Shilpi Seth also told students about the role of Sikh community in making Punjab a secure and independent homeland for Sikhs. Dr. Babusha, Prof Manjeet, Prof Amandeep, Prof Manish and Research Scholar Pawandeep and Himani were also present during the event.
