Amritsar, August 2 (Punjab Post Bureau)- For Caroline Ménage, a French citizen, nothing could be more delightful than watching the French Day being celebrated at Delhi Public School, Amritsar in India. She had helped in organizing the celebrations for the special day in DPS school. Caroline had collected all her earnings to visit India and had joined DPS in Amritsar to assist students with her native language for the foreign languages department of the school. Caroline who is from the city of Le Mans in France, about a distance of two hours away from Paris, was here in India on an exchange programme by “MILNA” a French organization.

School Principal Mrs Sangeeta Singh gave a warm welcome to the chief guest Dr. Mohan Kumar, HoD Foreign Languages at GNDU, a masters in German language and holds a PhD degree in Russian. While addressing students of the foreign languages department the principal stated –“In this era of globalization the significance of learning an additional language cannot be undermined. In order to fully inculcate the flavor of the language the school uses the language to make the students familiar with French drama, songs and other culture related events that would help them in interacting with people of France and other European countries using French language. The idea of celebrating ‘French Day’ by the school was to familiarize students with French traditions and culture for a better understanding of the French environment.”

The occasion started with a song of Pascal Parisot- “Wonderful” by students of class 5th. It was followed by a virtual tour via multi-media film of French monuments. Students were delighted to see Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, the Palais Garnier opera house, Notre Dame Cathedral etc. Students of class 6th and 7th presented meaningful French play Les Quatre Bougies meaning- ‘Four candles’ that revolved around efforts to guard, combined with hope, that would bring peace, faith and love in the world. This was followed by a peppy dance called ‘Dub-step’ as the school band played French music. The band also belted out a song “La seine” from a popular French film “un monster a Paris”. The grand finale came as a fashion show that allowed students to join in a role play of colorful French attire and showcase fashion trends in France.
