Experts converge to hammer the message of ‘Preventive Healthcare’

Dwell on interventions that are necessary if lifestyle changes don’t help

Amritsar, March 2 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Experts converge from all over the nation in the holy city to hammer the PPNJ0203202003message of ‘Preventive Healthcare’. Liver and Gastrointestinal experts from all over India shared their views on prevention of diseases by lifestyle modifications as well as certain interventions, surgical or medical to help those particular patients where the patients’ own efforts do not help. This was done in the annual conference GI Rendezvous 2020 along with health partners Sarvhit Gastrocity. Dr. Y.K Chawla former Director of PGIMER, Chandigarh shed light on how to improve nutrition in liver patients whereas Dr. Sonal Asthana, a liver transplant surgeon from Bangalore spoke about dealing with liver and biliary injuries after routinely done gall bladder surgeries. Dr. Ajay Kumar, a renowned gastroenterologist from Delhi and President SGEI (Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy of India) highlighted prevention of pancreatic diseases and judicious use of antibiotics in certain diseases. Dr. Malay Sharma shared his thoughts about how obesity in certain patients should be managed in case life style changes fail. He spoke about endoscopic interventions for the same which have evolved over the period. Dr. Rajesh Puri from Delhi highlighted his experience in the field of Endoscopic Ultrasound which is a great modality for early and easy diagnosis of cancers and other diseases. Giving a holistic touch, Dr. Kalyan Kar from Calcutta spoke about diseases of large bowel and newer treatments of piles. A state of the art talk regarding the ‘decision making in surgical interventions’ was delivered as a recorded message from Dr. Adarsh Chaudhary, a noted Pancreaticobiliary surgeon of national fame. 

                GI Rendezvous health partners Team Sarvhit Dr. Amitabh Jerath, Dr. Jagtesh Singh Sidhu, Dr. Ravinder Singh Malhotra, Dr. Vikas Gupta and Dr. Gurbilas P. Singh explained how GI Rendezvous apart from becoming a regular annual academic event, has also forayed into awareness campaigns regarding preventive healthcare and involving general population to make them interested in changing things for themselves. They highlighted a recent Run for Clean and Fit Amritsar, a multidisciplinary run arranged a week ago as a prelude to this conference and attended by 2500 participants including over 300 children from various schools who highlighted ‘Plogging’ to clean the environment and stay fit. Team Sarvhit and GI Rendezvous will continue such activities and the organisers thanked faculty, doctors (over 300 physicians and surgeons attended the meeting), media and all involved in the process to make such events a great success which actually lies in percolating and understanding the message.
