Amritsar, Nov. 22 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Through the beautiful moving medium of dance and drama, Delhi Public School premises came alive with a show “Yeh Gulistan Hamara…” celebrating the ‘diversity of India’ on its annual day depicting the glorious history and magnificent culture of the nation. The cultural show showcased the best of varied states of the country with the participation of nearly 400 students from class 1st to 5th .
The school campus reverberated with opening performances of ‘Durga Puja’,‘Chatt Puja’, ‘Holi of Mathura’. If Jammu and Kashmir in the backdrop of its scenic beauty played up the famous dance ‘Boomroo’ of the beautiful valley it also saw the heroic enactments of scenes of Kargil war with Pakistan. Bengal with its Durga Puja and scenes of Nobel Laureate Rabinder Nath Tagore’s shantiniketan and Suhash Chandra Bose Azad Hind fauj in the backdrop of song ‘Ekla chalo re’ stirred patriotic feelings. Maharastra was depicted with the role play on Shivaji and Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations. The colors of Rajasthan were presented with Mira Bai’s love for Krishan, a Rajasthani mela and folk dance ‘Kalbelia’. Bihar was presented with its ‘chatt Puja’, role play on Ashoka the Great and Journey of Buddha and its impact. Uttar Pradesh was represented with a conversation of Shahjahan with his wife Mumtaz Mahal and the building of Taj Mahal in her loving memory, a typical qwwali and Mathura’s famous flower petals Holi.
Christmas carnival and Goan dance , the dandi march scene of Gujarat and making of salt by Mahatma Gandhi- the father of the Nation and scenes of animal dance in Gir forest brought thunderous applause from audience that comprised parents, staff and students of the school. Medical College, Amritsar with the traditional lighting of the lamps, the school Principal Ms Sangeeta Singh while opening the annual show said – “The culture of India as it exists today has been shaped by its long history, geography, heritage and demography and although India is a unique land of diverse cultures, its people stand in harmony with its extensive diversity. Few countries in the world are blessed with such an ancient, rich and diverse culture as India’s. This is reflected through varied religions, festivals, monuments, artifacts, rituals, costumes, music, dance, language and literature. India has grown with them and they are deeply embedded in its roots and ethos. The Chief guest presented scholar badges for classes I to V, wherein about 152 meritorious students were awarded prizes for their excellent performance in academics, sports and other activities. As many as 22 students received High Achiever Cup, 35 received the Chairman Cup, 74 students were given Scholar Awards and All Rounder Trophy and Wiz Kids awards were bagged by 13 and 8 students respectively. The chief guest applauded the school for connecting students with Indian culture.
