Two days film festival based on Partition Horrors by IGNCA at Amritsar

Screening of the film “Gadar: Ek Prem Katha” and Pinjar set against the backdrop of Partition

Amritsar, September (Punjab Post Bureau) – Award winning short/documentary films and the film “Gadar: Ek Prem Katha”  andpijarwere screened at Atari Boarder,Amritsaron the Inaugural day of the two-day film screening organized by Union Ministry of Culture and Indira Gandhi National Center for the Arts.Film festival will be concluded at Partition museum, Amritsar on 11th September Anurag Punetha, Media Controller of Indira Gandhi National Center for the Arts said that in the competition of documentary and short films based on the theme of Partition, young filmmakers sent their films at very short notice. Seven of those films were selected by the jury for the awards.

“The Unknown House” got the first prize, “JhoothaSach” got the second prize and “Asmarth” got the third prize. Apart from this, “Dere Tu Dilli”, “Partition Vibhisika”, “Fed Memory” and “Ghar” were also honored.

Significantly, as part of the celebrations of Partition Memorial Day, the Union Ministry of Culture and Indira Gandhi National Center for the Arts have organized screening of films focused on Partition in four cities of the country – Delhi, Kolkata, Hyderabad and Amritsar. In addition, several parts of the country including the Parliament House Complex, organized an exhibition and discussions focused on the horrors of Partition.
Last year, the Prime Minister had called for celebrating “VibhishanVibhishika Memorial Day” so that the pain of lakhs of families who suffered the brunt of Partition should not be lost from our memories.
