Punjab Government Committed for the Growth of Farmers – Majithia

PPN0105201611Amritsar, May 1 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Revenue and Information and Public Relations Minister Bikram Singh Majithia has said that the Punjab government is committed for overall growth of farmers. He said that Punjab’s economy is based on agriculture and without its growth, the state cannot grow. Majithia said that water is a big need for the farmers and keeping in view their need, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal decided to scrap the Satluj Yamuna Link canal project, which in itself is a historic decision. He said this while speaking to media persons after distributing tubewell connections to hundreds of farmers at a function organised at Nath Di Khuhi today. On the issue of SYL canal, he said that Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has backstabbed the farmers of Punjab over his double stand on SYL issue. While taking an aim at Kejriwal, Majithia said that some people are habitual of being backstabbers because they claim to be pro Punjab when they visit the state and oppose it on reaching Delhi. He said that farming is no more a profitable occupation because the farmers are not paid proper rates of their crops. He reiterated that a special package for farmers should be given and the Swaminathan Commission report submitted in 2006 should be implemented. Showing his concern for the increase debt on farmers, Bikram Singh Majithia said that for making the farmers debt free, the Punjab government would soon take firm steps which includes that no one would be able to take possession of the farmer’s land. He also thanked CM Parkash Singh Badal and Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal for allotting 1.25 lakh tubewell connections to the farmers and said that the Punjab government would provide more such facilities to the farmers. He said Punjab is the first state which provided free electricity to farmers for their tubewells. He said that an interest free loan scheme was started for farmers along with a scheme in which farmers can avail treatment up to Rs 50,000 and insurance cover worth Rs 5 lakh. He said that all dera’s in villages are getting 24 hour uninterrupted power supply besides well carpeted roads. He said for the development of villages and cities, there is no shortage of funds. Prominent among those present on the occasion included Talbir Singh Gill, Major Shivi, Sukhwinder Singh Goldy, Border Zone Chief Engineer Jagjit Singh Sachu, PardeepSaini, Media Advisor Prof Sarchand Singh, besides several others.
