He was very affably received by his Senior Subaltern of yesteryears Colonel Manbir Singh Hundal (Retd.), who was the very person to receive him when he joined the Regiment at Ambala in 1977 and when he came on posting in Chandimandir as the Army Commander. He returned to the very battle tank which he maintained with elan and pride as its driver, as part of the battle crew. This T-55 classic tank, marked as ZX 1685 was entrusted to the young Second Lieutenant KJ Singh by the then Commanding Officer as being a part of the Young Officer’s unit’s initiating programme way back in Jun1977. This tank was repositioned at Khasa near Amritsar from Jandiala where it is currently located. Today Lt Gen KJ Singh returned ‘home’ to the unit where he was commissioned and spent his final day in uniform with this vintage war machine as also his Comrades in Arms as a befitting tribute and final farewell to arms. With nostalgic memories he spoke of the good times, also the heat and dust which forms a part of Cavalryman’s active service. While reminiscing the golden days of his service career the General Officer noted that Army is one of the noblest of professions and should attract the best talent that the Nation has to offer.
