
Amritsar, Dec 25 (Punjab Post Bureau)- Punjab Circle has taken a historic step today in connecting the priority mail and parcel service such as Speed Post, Express Parcel booked here and meant for delivery in major and important cities in India such as Mumbai, Bengaluru and Chennai for transmission by flights from Guru Ramdass International Airport at Amritsar.
Shri P.K. Swain, Chief Postmaster General, Punjab & U.T Chandigarh launched the airmail linkage of priority mail to all these destinations at Head Post office, Amritsar with a view to provide faster and reliable transmission for early delivery of Speed Post, Express Parcel etc. booked from Amritsar and other important cities in Punjab Circle. Speaking on the occasion, Shri Swain said that priority articles booked till previous evening in Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Gurdaspur, Kapurthala, Batala, Jalandhar, Phagwara, SBS Nagar and Hoshiarpur which are transmitted during the night through Departmental Mail Motor Service to Amritsar hub are handed over to airlines in the morning for air transmission to far off destinations.
Shri Swain further said that this will provide huge impetus to business, trade, commerce and industrial activities in cities such as Amritsar, Jalandhar, Kapurthala & Hoshiarpur etc. and help in economic growth of the region. There is also large business linkage from Punjab in segment of garments, sports goods and manufactured goods which will get a fillip and air transmission of priority Speed Post and Express Parcel to cities like Chennai, Bengaluru & Mumbai etc. will accelerate the economic activities in Punjab.
Shri P.K. Swain, Chief Postmaster General, Punjab & U.T., Chandigarh flagged off the first air consignment from Amritsar Head Post office, whereby airlines. Shri Swain also said flights of different airlines will be used for the purpose depending on their efficient connectivity. He further added that first historic air linkage of Speed Post letters and parcels booked in major cities such as Ludhiana, Chandigarh, Jalandhar, Patiala and Amritsar to Kolkata and major destinations to North East India such as Guwahati, Agartala, Silchar etc had been made last week from Chandigarh International Airport, Mohali.
