Amritsar, Nov. 15 (Punjab Post Bureau) – DAV Public School, Lawrence Road paid homage to Mahatma Hansraj ji on
his death anniversary which falls on 15th September. The students performed a Havan in the morning and remembered the great soul. He belonged to a humble background and lost his father before he was 12. His elder brother who draw a meagre salary of Rs. 40 per month, looked after the family . While Hansraj was a student, he came under the spell of teachings of Swami Dayanand. The students presented a short role – play, depicting the strong impact of Swami Dayanand’s teachings on who – ever came under his influence. One such meeting, stirred in Mahatma Hansraj , the appeal to rejuvenate Aryan Hinduism by going back to Vedas which believed in one God ‘OM’ , rejected idol worship and caste system. The students were informed about his inspirational life. His life is an example of dedication and selfless service. Young Hansraj volunteered his services to the Arya Samaj and was appointed the Headmaster of the Dayanand Anglo – Vedic School in Lahore. Reading excerpts from his life , the students were encouraged to render service to the society and propagate unity and brotherhood. The students took a pledge to follow the precepts of Arya Samaj and imbibe values to become true Aryans. The students shared his vision of leading the country from the darkness of ignorance to the enlightenment of knowledge and do their bit to fulfil his dreams.
Dr. Neera Sharma, Principal of the School, speaking on the occasion said that Mahatma Hansraj practiced what he preached. Sandhya (Vedic prayer), Swadhyaya (Self Study), Samaj Satsang (weekly religious session of Arya Samaj), Swadesh (loyalty of motherland) and Sewa (service of man) were the five precepts he lived by. She motivated students to follow the path shown by him for a meaningful living.
Regional Director Punjab Zone – A Dr. Neelam Kamra and the Manager of the school , Dr. Rajesh Kumar Principal DAV College Amritsar sent their best wishes to the students on this occasion. They advised students to keep the ideals of these great souls alive in them and live a fruitful life.
