
Amritsar, Aug. 17 (Punjab Post Bureau) – A Short Term Course on “E-Learning Technologies for Effective Teaching Research & Extension” was inaugurated on August 17, 2016 at the UGC-Human Resource Development Centre of Guru Nanak Dev University. As many as 44 University and College teachers and budding research scholars from across the length and breadth of the country are participating.
Prof. Ashok Aima, Vice-Chancellor, Central University of Jammu, Jammu was the Chief Guest. Prof. Aima in his inaugural address exhorted the teaching community at large to adapt themselves to the rapid advancements in the field of Information Technology and make them an integral part of the classroom teaching. Citing the leading Universities of the world, he asked the teaching community to take a leaf out of their books to follow e-learning techniques in order to make their teaching more effective.
Undoubtedly, the teaching profession has become more challenging in the present era of information explosion, where the plethora of information on any subject is just a click away, he emphasized. The dire need of the hour is to convert existing teaching institutes into knowledge institutes, he continued. Differentiating between a career and a job, he impressed upon the teachers to opt for the former rather than the latter to do full justice to their classroom. Highlighting the increasing significance of the synergic teaching, he counselled the teaching fraternity not to confine themselves to their particular discipline, but to have an insight into other disciplines as well. Concluding his thought provoking, enlightening address, he emphasized on the significance of constant learning by the teachers as well in order to become extraordinary teacher rather than an ordinary teacher.
Prof. Gurvinder Singh, Dean Faculty of Engg. & Technology and the Course Coordinator apprised the participants with the concept of e-learning techniques and its relevance in academics in the modern era. He emphasized that the traditional classroom teaching is gradually being replaced by the e-learning technologies.
Prof. Amarjit Singh Sidhu, Director, UGC-Human Resource Development Centre, in his welcome address shed light on the aims of this Short Term Course. He implored the participants to enrich themselves with the latest e-learning technologies, which are of primary importance for all the disciplines. Earlier Prof. Ashok Aima was accorded a floral welcome by Prof. Amarjit Singh Sidhu, Prof. Gurvinder Singh, Prof. R.S. Virk and Dr. Mohan Kumar. Dr. Mohan Kumar proposed the vote of thanks.
