Amritsar, October 18 (Punjab Post Bureau) – A special lecture on the Credit based Syllabi and Evaluation System was held at Khalsa University campus here today. The varsity vice-chancellor Dr.SS Chahal who himself is the authority on the subject, was the key speaker who emphasised on the need for more field work, active learning methods including the use of Information Technology and presentations in the higher education. He said that this was the latest system being adopted by the central and state universities as he apprised how relevant was the new methods of evaluation through credit and grading. While addressing the faculty and research scholar of the varsity Dr. Chahal said that as they were in the process of developing ordinances, schemes of study, courses/syllabi for various teaching programs, it becomes imminent that the latest methods of evaluations are adopted by the varsity. Emphasising on the division of courses through semester system, more diverse choice of credits and selection of courses, fool proof comprehensive evaluation, structuring of programs, Dr. Chahal stated that the University Grants Commission (UGC) had been spearheading the movement for the universities to adopt the new system. He also added that quantification of syllabus covered and credit evaluation, design of courses through the semester system mode with a credit based scheme of involved in development of curriculum of university program must be the focus. KU Registrar Dr. Jawinder Singh Dhillon, Dean Agriculture Dr. Gursharan Singh, DSW Dr. Sukhbir Kaur Mahal, Director, Research Dr. RK Dhawan, Controller, Exams, Dr Amarpal Singh, Dr. Jaspal Singh, Principal, Khalsa College of Law, the faculty members, the Ph.D students were present in large number.
