Amritsar, June 12 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Gulzar was remembered through his art creativities in seven avenues; thus the program named “Tu Hi Tu…Satrangi Re”. The programme was scripted, directed and presented by Dr. P.S Grover with the help of slides, videos and live performances.
Gulzar’s film carrear spread over 57 years has catered to FOUR generations meeting the tastes and demands of the young generation of the time. A man as old as 80 years remembers him through his old melodies while the new generation dance with ‘Kajra re tere kale kale Naina’ and dance numbers of Jab Tak Hai Jaan & Rangoon.
As a lyricist, his first song had been ‘Mora Gora Rang from Bandini” & “Ganga Aaye Kahan se from Kabuliwala” in 1961. Though he had been contributing to the bollywood movies through his pen regularly but his talent was aptly recognized by the songs of “Khamoshi” especially ’Pyar ko Pyar hi rehne do koi naam na Do’. After that Gulzar has so far written over 1000 songs for 125 movies. His prayer ‘Hum Ko man ki shakti dena’ is played in most of the schools in morning sessions.
As a film director, Gulzar jumped into arena with ‘Mere apne’ in 1971 ; a film on unemployment. Aandhi, Achanak, Kinara, Khushboo, Angoor, Mausam, Machis are a few to name to mention. As a dialogue writer, he made his debut in Aashirwad in 1968; Anand added to the charm of crisp script writing. Angoor proved that Gulzar is good in comedy too.
Gulzar is well decorated with prestigious awards like International Oscar & Grammy, Dada Saheb Phalke Award, Padam Bhushan, National and filmfare awards. At Doordarshan, who can forget his “Mirza Ghalib” starring Naseerudin Shah; and Jungle Jungle aag Lagi….chaddi pehan ke phul khila Hai. His Ghazals had well been rendered by Jagjit Singh in ‘Marasim’. His poetry, story writing books are popular across border in Pakistan too.
Summer Art Camp students under the choreography of Latika Arora danced to the songs of Gulzar; while noted singers like Gurpreet, Lata, Khyati Mehra, Sumeet dhillon, Geetu Bala enthralled the audience with their melodious notes.
Padamshri Vijay Chopra was the chief guest while RMS Chhina presided over the function. Amongst other noted Gulzar lovers were Ms Gurpreet Kaur Head Music deptt GNDU, Dr. Sukhbir K aur Mahal, Rashmi Nanda, Ritu Sharma, Sudarshan Kapoor, Avinash Mohindru, M.M Jerath, Harminder Singh, Arun Kapoor, Gurjit Sekhon and many more.
IAFA members Pushpinder Singh, Dupinder Singh, Dr. A.S Mahal, Kulwant Gill, Narinder Singh, Gurjit Kaur, Kawal Sehgal graced the function with their presence.
