Seed Balls introduced through Hands on Workshop

 Amritsar, May 24 (Punjab Post Bureau) – A Hands  on  workshop for introducing the young ones to the   wonderful world of gardening through a fun activity of preparing ‘Seed Balls’ was  organized at DAV Public School, Lawrence Road, Amritsar.  Mrs. Gitanali Mehra, Interior designer turned environmentalist, who pioneered vertical gardening, seed balls & panchvati and also holds two Limca Book World Records was in the school along with the members of FICCI FLO organization. This organization provides a platform to empower women & has joined hands with the ‘Green Couple’, Mr & Mrs. Geetanjali Mehra, for FICCI FLO’s environment drive 2019-20, under the theme , ‘Seeds of Change. Mrs. Arushi Verma is the chairperson and Ms. Mona Singh is the Jt. Treasurer of FICCI FLO, Drishti Khurana & Yukti Dhamni, Vandana, Pallavi , Sonali Soni, Anchal Arora, Depanita Narula, Nagma, Arveena Soni, Rimple, Bhandari, Deepanta were the other Flo members accompanying them for the drive.

In a very lively and interactive workshop, the students were taught to make seed balls and kick – off the spring and summer in an eco-friendly way. It was fantastic to see students engaged in playing with soil, colors and seeds. Their curiosity was worth watching as many of them were eager to take the seed balls for their garden. The students learned to prepare the mixture and the procedure for their future use. The covering of the seed in the form of ball protects the seed inside from rodents and drying up and provides the right amount of nutrients for germination. The teams aimed at providing green education to students and are targeting to make two and half lakh seed balls for re-foresting barren land around the city under their unique drive. Overall it was a fun-workshop with a lot to learn and follow.

Co-curricular Supervisor Ms. Shama Sharma and Mrs. Anju Gupta, Supervisor STD IX & X welcomed the guests and thanked them for their time. They presented them with a token of gratitude and encouraged the team for the good work they   were doing.

Dr. Neera Sharma, Principal of the school, though not present during the workshop, in her message to the students asked them to promote eco-friendly ways and adopt all means to keep their surrounding area green & clean.
