Dr. Dharam Veer Singh appointed as City Co-ordinator
Amritsar, Oct. 11 (Manjit Kaur) – CBSE has launched Udaan programme which is a programme for girls to compete for admission at Premier Engineering Colleges. It is a project to provide free online resources to girl students of classes XI and XII for preparation of admission test for IIT-JEE entrance examination. Dr. Dharam Veer Singh, Principal/Director Sri Guru Harkrishan Sr. Sec. Public School G.T. Road, Amritsar has been appointed City Co-ordinator for Udaan programme.
The special focus of project Udaan is to address the low enrollment ratio of girl students in prestigious engineering colleges and to enable girl students to receive special incentives and support so that they can join these institutions. It is envisaged that Udaan will help bridge this gap by improving the socio economic status of girls and women through increased participation in professional education. The aim is also to enrich and enhance teaching and learning of Science and Mathematics at Senior Secondary Level by providing free and online resources to everyone, with a focus on special incentives and support to 1000 selected girls in India.
In the first year, 1000 girl students from across the country will be selected on merit basis. The eligibility criteria for students in class XI is minimum 70% marks in class X and 80% marks in Science and Mathematics and for CBSE Board, minimum CGPA 8 and GPA of 9 in Mathematics and Science and a minimum of 75% marks in PCM in class XI. Preference will be given to girl students for financially weaker section where the combined family income should be less than INR 6 lakhs per annum. In the current session, 1000 girl students will be enrolled, out of which 500 girl students will be from open category and 500 will be from SC/ST/Backward class. Meritorious girl students can apply online and offline by October 27, 2014 at CBSE website.
