New Delhi, Nov. 5 (Amrit Lal Manan) – The president of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) sounded an alert for congress party against any effort to give prominence to their leaders Jagdish Tytler and Sajjan Kumar accused of perpetrating Sikh genocide in 1984 killing thousands of Sikhs, in the elections of Delhi assembly expected to be announced soon and or any other position in the party.
GK was reacting to the reports that congress party was planning to give Jagdish Tytler and Sajjan Kumar prominent role in the forthcoming assembly polls in the national capital. “Giving prominence to these leaders would be suicidal for congress party which has bitterly lost in the general elections and would not get even two assembly seats in the Delhi polls,” said Manjit Singh GK adding people of Delhi has not forgiven these leaders.
He further said that giving important role to them (Sajjan Kumar and Jagdish Tytler) would be like rubbing salts into the wounds of Sikhs after their role in 1984 genocide has already become very apparent and for past 30 years congress party is making all efforts to save them,” said GK pointing that with taking over of BJP led National democratic alliance (NDA) government in the centre, congress party is much worried that noose is tightening around its leaders who perpetrated genocide especially Sajjan and Tytler, and very soon these leaders shall be behind bars.
Already congress party had caused much hurt to the Sikhs by giving prominent positions and plum posts to these leaders during their regime from time to time. Manjit Singh GK reminded the congress party that after action taken report was tabled in the parliament in 2005 then government has assured that congressmen whose names figure in the genocide would not contest elections, and despite commitment in the parliament these leaders were made to contest parliament polls but after objection by Shiromani Akali Dal their candidature was withdrawn.
According to GK about 12,000 innocent Sikhs were killed in the genocide across country and 3,000 in national capital alone. Referring to the Nanavati Commission report of 2005, GK said a total of 587 riots related FIRs were registered in Delhi and out of these 241 were closed by the police as untraced and were never sent to Court for trial.
