GNDU professor presented paper in china

Amritsar, Dec. 10 (Punjab Post Bureau)- Dr. Vikram Chadha, a senior Professor at the Punjab School of Economics of Guru Nanak Dev  University presented his paper, “The Discordance Between the Generation; Requirement and Employment of Technical Manpower in India’s ICT Sector: Issues of Quality and Employability” at the 5th IIMS International Conference on “Managing the Development of Emerging Economies”, hosted by the Xuzhou Institute of Technology, Xuzhou, China, during 1-3 December, 2015. The paper was co-authored by research scholars Hina Sachdeva and Pooja Choudhary. In his presentation, Dr Chadha highlighted the paradox of rising demand for professionally skilled manpower by the bourgeoning ICT industry in India and simultaneously rising unemployment among IT engineers and technical manpower, which is because of the poor quality of technical education and instructions. This has resulted in a skill-gap, which can be plugged by upgrading and modernizing technical education and closing the academia-industry interface. Dr. Chadha also chaired a technical session at the conference, besides acting as a discussant to two key note papers presented by Chinese and Malaysian experts. The conference was also attended by renowned economists from all over the world, including Peter Gerard; John Wood and Ershad Ali from AIS, Auckland, Newzealand; Aliysha Liu from Australia; Geetha Subramaniam from University of Technologi, Malaysia and M. Balasubramaniam from the University of Texas, USA; besides a large number of Indian scholars from universities at Madurai; Lucknow; Calcutta and Bhubaneswar etc..
