
Amritsar, Jan 28 (Punjab Post Bureau)- A Seminar was conducted jointly by the Panther Division and Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) on 28 Jan 2016 to commemorate the Golden Jubilee celebrations of 1965 Indo-Pak War. The seminar was organized at Dasmesh Auditorium, GNDU, Amritsar and was attended by a large number of civil dignitaries, faculty members, students and defence personnel. During the inaugural address, Lieutenant General KJ Singh, General Officer Commanding in Chief, Western Command mentioned that “there was an immense contribution by the civil society wherein cheering crowds motivated the marching troops to the fronts and a feel of patriotism swept across the country. He emphasized that the immense public support was highly important to the troops as it clearly reflected the strong bond between the civil society and the Army”.
Eminent panelists consisting of war veterans, senior civil and military historians elucidated various facets of 1965 Indo-Pak War. Professor Rakesh Datta of Punjab University, Chandigarh highlighted the Geo-political Environment and the impact it had on both the nations. Lt Gen JS Cheema, General Officer Commanding Vajra Corps deliberated upon Decision Making for War followed by Lt Gen Tajindar Singh Shergill (Retd) who shared his views and anecdotes on the War Narratives of 1965 Operations. Dr HS Sandhu exhilarated the audience with his anecdotes, once he spoke about the Role of Civil Society during 1965 war. In interactive session Lt Gen Kamal Davar (Retd), clarified various queries related to the war. The seminar culminated with display of captured weapons and equipment of 1965 War which was the main attraction especially amongst the younger generation. The seminar instilled great sense of pride, motivation and respect for our armed forces amongst the civil society.
