Newly appointed Granthi Singhs handed over charge of their service

Amritsar, August 28 (Punjan Post Bureau) – Three newly-appointed Granthi Singhs of Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib were handed over charge of their service as per Panthic Maryada (conduct) at a special ceremony (Sewa Sambhal Samagam) organised at Sri Akal Takht Sahib.

              As per the decision taken by the executive committee of the SGPC, Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib Giani Harpreet Singh made separate announcements of the appointments namely Giani Rajdeep Singh, Giani Sultan Singh, and Giani Baljit Singh as ‘Granthi Singhs’ of Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib, which were accepted amid the Jaikaras (victory slogan – Bole So Nihal Sat Sri Akal) by the present Panthic personalities and the Sangat (congregation).

              After this Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib head granthi Giani Jagtar Singh, SGPC President Bibi Jagir Kaur, Giani Harpreet Singh, Jathedar of Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib Giani Raghbir Singh, Jathedar of Takht Sri Patna Sahib Giani Ranjit Singh Gauhar-e-Maskin, representatives of Shiromani Akali Dal and religious sabha societies and prominent personalities presented turbans and Siropao (robe of honour) to the newly appointed Granthi Singhs.

               After the ceremony, the Granthi Singhs offered Karah Parsad Deg (sacred pudding) at Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib and as per the Sikh tradition, all three separately recited the holy Hukamnama inside the sanctum sanctorum of the shrine to start their service. Later, as per the tradition, they offered the Karah Parsad Deg at Gurdwara Baba Atal Rai and recited the Hukamnama there as well.

               Giani Jagtar Singh congratulated the newly appointed Granthi Sahibs and encouraged them to perform their duties as per the Maryada of the holy shrine.

                Speaking on the occasion SGPC President Bibi Jagir Kaur said that Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib is the central shrine of the Sikhs and their Granthi Singhs are revered by the Sikhs. SGPC Chief Secretary Advocate Harjinder Singh managed the stage during the ceremony and shared information about the historical background, tradition and service of Granthi Singh Sahibs of Sri Darbar Sahib.

               On this occasion, SGPC senior vice-president Surjit Singh Bhitewad, general secretary Advocate Bhagwant Singh Sialka, additional head granthi Giani Jagtar Singh Ludhiana, former Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh, head of Baba Bidhi Chand Sampradai Baba Avtar Singh Sursingh, on behalf of the head of Shiromani Panth Akali Budha Dal Baba Jassa Singh and Baba Manmohan Singh Baranwale, Baba Kashmir Singh Bhuriwale, a large number of other Panthic personalities and SGPC top officials were present.
