Senate & Syndicate Meeting of Guru Nanak Dev University

ppn2009201612Amritsar, September 20 (Punjab Post Bureau)- The Senate & Syndicate meetings of the Guru Nanak Dev University were held here today in the Senate & Syndicate Rooms of the University, respectively.  Prof. Ajaib Singh Brar, Vice-Chancellor presided over both the meetings while Prof. Sharanjit Singh Dhillon, Registrar presented the agendas. Approval of new courses, change in the name of courses & colleges were the main agendas in the meetings. Prof. Brar welcomed the newly joined members and lauded the contribution of outgoing members in the development of University. Newly joined members also thanked the University authorities and Government for providing opportunity to serve this University as member of prestigious houses. They also assured their constructive contribution in the further progress of the University. In sexual harassment cases, Dr. Rajinder Singh Sandhu, Associate Professor, Political Science Department has been demoted to the lower post of Assistant Professor by the syndicate. Similarly, Dr. Sajid Hussain, Professor (Under Suspension), Department of Microbiology has been demoted to Associate Professor and Dr. R.S.S. Kaler, Associate Professor, Food Sci. and Tech. Department has been censured by the syndicate. The syndicate approved the special leave without salary of Dr. Viney Kapoor, Head, Law Department of the University, as she has joined Member, State Information Commission, Punjab for the period of one year starting from the date of her joining. During this period the charge of head of the department would be given to Dr. Gurjit Singh of the Department. Syndicate approved the duty leave alongwith other allowances of the the teachers for participating in international conferences and seminars. Two amendments by the UGC regarding teachers have also been approved by the syndicate.

            The house approved change in the names of newly started five government colleges under Guru Nanak Dev University as : Govt. College, Pathankot to Guru Nanak Dev University College, Pathankot; Govt. College, Sujanpur to Guru Nanak Dev University College, Sujanpur; Baba Namdev Govt. Degree College, Kishankot (Gurdaspur) to Baba Namdev University College, Kishankot (Gurdaspur); Govt. College, Phillor (Jalandhar) to Guru Nanak Dev University College, Phillor (Jalandhar) and Govt. College, Nakodar (Jalandhar) to Guru Nanak Dev University College, Nakodar (Jalandhar).

            Meetings also approved the the permanent affiliation of GNDU to Pathankot College of Education, Mamun; Baba Mehar Singh Memorail College of Education, Gurdaspur; Shaheed Bhagat Singh College of Education Patti and DIPS College of Education, Dhilwan.  They also approved the nomenclature of various courses run in the affiliated colleges as per the direction of UGC.

Prof. Brar informed the house that the Governor of Punjab and Chancellor of Guru Nanak Dev University H.E. Shri V.P. Singh Badnore visited the University and appreciated the State of Art Infrastructure of the university and also congratulated for the great name earned by the university in the country during recent years.

He said that as many as 830 students of Batch 2016 from different courses have already been placed in various multinational companies. He also apprised the house about the research, academic, sports and cultural achievements of the University.

Prof. Brar thanked the senators & syndics and exhorted all to play pro-active role in further progress of the University.
